Strengthening the Industrial Base
In March 2016, ETUC and BusinessEurope issued a joint statement calling on the EU institutions to bring competitive and sustainable industry back to the core of the EU policy agenda. Since then, the Commission has published its Industrial Policy Agenda, which is a positive signal on the importance of this issue.
To ensure that the next European Commission continues to place a strong focus on actions to strengthen the industrial base in Europe, the European Social Partners have organised a joint conference on 9th October 2019 in Brussels as part of their Integrated Project activities.
This one-day conference helped to reemphasise why a strong focus on industrial policy is so important for Europe, both for workers and employers, and what measures the next Commission will need to take to make sure that this becomes a reality.
